SAT AND ACT PREPARATION
Now you can be prepared for the current SAT, ACT, or PSAT tests by mastering specific testing strategies including budgeting time, analyzing test questions and learning ways to deal with test anxiety to improve performance. In short, learn how to take a test! It's a personalized education experience.
It is also important to take the PSAT as it helps students to understand SAT expectations, and it builds confidence with test-taking. An early reading will also serve to identify the specific skills that need strengthening. Our PSAT Workshop is always offered in the fall, one week prior to the PSAT test date, however, students can enroll for a private tutorial during the summer. Often students who are seeking scholarships want to be well prepared in order to qualify for the National Merit Scholarship Program.
SAT classes and tuition do not correspond to the regular session calendar.
*Summer Session: Good News!
Students, especially seniors, now have the opportunity to sit for the August SAT test. This year students can utilize the summer months for intensive preparation without the heavy demands of school obligations. Students will also receive their test results far in advance of early application deadlines. If you are dissatisfied with your August scores, you can always retake the test in October or November. Take advantage of this opportunity to reach your peak score by preparing this summer in a group class or a tutorial. Group Classes begin July 8th. Tutorials can be scheduled throughout the summer based on your personal schedule. See SAT Registration form for all test dates and classes.
*Academic Year classes correspond to the College Board test dates and meet 8 weeks prior to the time students sit for the test.
Call for a separate SAT or ACT brochure listing the full schedule of classes, or review the information below and use the ACT or SAT Registration Form or the Tutorial Registration Form to register.
Tutorial classes can be scheduled throughout the summer and academic year upon request and at your convenience.
SAT READING
Critical Reading ONLY
This course will focus on assessing comprehension and reasoning skills involving literature and informational texts which include a wide array of subject areas such as science, social studies, and analyzing data graphically in tables or charts. Students will also practice and develop an understanding of relevant words in context, and learn how word choice helps shape meaning and tone.
SAT MATH - ONLY
This course will focus on reviewing a set of essential math skills and knowledge while applying those abilities to solve problem situations in science, social studies, and career related contexts. The main emphasis will be on algebra problem solving, data analysis, and geometry.
COMPREHENSIVE TESTING PROGRAMS
Our comprehensive testing program focuses on both formal and informal assessments and tests. Tests include standardized, nationally normed tests as well as reading inventories and classroom specific measures of student achievement. Now parents can benefit from multiple indicators to determine their child's progress in reading and math and use the information to determine progress, learning, and to plan instruction that specifically meets the individual learning needs of their child. Conferences are necessary to share results and are a part of the testing program. Conferences will be scheduled for all students and are designed to review testing results and make recommendations.
So often parents recognize their child's reading deficiencies, but delay addressing them in hopes that they will independently be able to play "catch up". Studies show, however, that early intervention and recognition of learning difficulties makes a significant difference not only in a child's self-esteem, but in terms of his or her overall progress and success.
